With the end of 2021, we are over a year since the end of the 2020 presidential campaign and our launch of the Green Socialist Organizing Project. At this point, a year into our post-election work, we wanted to take a moment to review the work that we have completed in the last year.

Workshops and Trainings
Systems, Tech, and Social Media
Hawkins/Walker Social Media and Tech Director put together a series of workshops intended to help local Green/independent socialist chapters and candidates better use technology, systems, and social media in their organizing.
2021 Green Party Annual National Meeting
Every year the Green Party US holds its Annual National Meeting. Open to Greens and the general public, the multi-day event includes workshops, trainings, plenary sessions, keynote speakers and more. Members of the Green Socialist Organizing Project presented a number of workshops at the 2021 meeing, which was held via ZOOM due to the COVID pandemic.
Party Building/Organizing Workshops
The key to growing the Green Party into a party that can elect thousands to local office in the 2020s is local organizing and party building. Strong locals are central to any grassroots movement and these workshops are the first entries towards organizing trainings from the Green Socialist Organizing Project.
How to Run a Reading Group
Murray Bookchin, who founded social ecology, a theory that strongly influenced early Green Socialist thought, strongly advocated the discussion and study group as the first step of any revolutionary movement. A group of individuals meets to expand their knowledge of radical thought and form a radical intellectual community; through the give and take of discussion, can eventually form ideas for next steps in organizing and political activity. According to Bookchin, study groups help create solidarity and a shared language — with a shared coherent vision — for building a mass, organizing, political movement!
With Bookchin’s words in mind and with the Green Socialist Organizing Project’s commitment to building from the bottom-up, we do not only want to present or connect to existing Reading Groups, but seek to develop local organizers that can run their own local groups.

Reading/Discussion Group Resources
While we are not presently running a recurring reading/discussion group, we have produced some initial Green Socialist Reading Lists, maintain a calendar of public socialist reading groups, and have developed training materials to help local organizers start their own groups.
